On 16 March 2022 SAPCA will be announcing and presenting the winners of the SAPCA Awards for 2022 in a webinar session and invite members to attend what will be a showcase for the excellent work of our members over the past 12 months. This year we will be rewarding success in the following five areas:
- Project
- Product
- Sustainability
- Innovation
- Export success
During the assessment of the entries from across the wide ranging SAPCA membership, our panel of judges were looking for innovation, creative and sustainable solutions, best practice and examples of where companies have gone above and beyond to stand out from their competition. Following from previous years, the quality of entries is as ever, very high and the judges were keen to stress the level of quality during the assessment process.
The panel of judges were taken across a broad range of the industry:

- Professor Paul Fleming (Associate Dean, Professor of Sports Surface and Ground Engineering, Loughborough University)

- Dr. Kathryn Severn (Framework and Procurement Manager, Football Foundation & chair of the SAPCA Environmental Sustainability Working Group)

The SAPCA Awards have a special significance this year, as 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the association. The SAPCA Awards themselves are in their seventh year and have continued to grow since the first edition in 2016.

This Year’s SAPCA Awards Finalists
Courtstall Services Ltd
The installation of three Padel Courts at East Glos Club in Cheltenham. A project that enhanced the profile of the club and led to a 25% increase in membership through access to a growing sport, and increased sports activity during the pandemic.
FieldTurf
FieldTurf takes their SUSTAIN THE GAME strategy to the next level, seeing an opportunity to embrace technology and find a solution to closing the loop on the synthetic turf production cycle. SuReTec is a synthetic turf yarn formed using materials from 100% recycled plastic waste.
Gerflor Flooring Limited
Refurbishment of an existing indoor tennis hall at Les Ormes Sports Centre – Jersey’s premier self-catering holiday and sports centre by transforming it into four new netball courts. In a need for an ever-increasing sustainable world Gerflor re-purposed existing flooring that had been used for the 2016 Island Games held in Jersey.
Harrod Sport
In challenging times during the pandemic, export was one area of the business which saw a significant increase at Harrod Sport despite ongoing pressures of container costs, delays at port and raw material shortages across the world. Harrod Sport showed continued growth in exporting throughout 2021 supplying state of the art equipment to worldwide sporting events including Euro 2020, the Tokyo Olympics, the World Club Cup and the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
Labosport Ltd
Labosport unveils its new Red Robin device for the assessment of natural turf sports fields, using drone technology, an autonomous solution that collects data at pre-determined locations across a field.
Replay Maintenance Ltd
Replay Maintenance have been expanding their maintenance business into a rapidly growing US market. In recent months Replay Maintenance USA have a established a firm base in north-west USA and shows an excellent export success for 2021.
S&C Slatter Ltd
At Winnersh Triangle Business Park, S&C Slatter developed a multi-faceted sport and recreation project providing a blueprint for the office of the future, providing spaces for health and wellbeing in a workplace arena. The project comprised a Gen 2 multi-use pitch and wellbeing studio along with considerable landscaping and challenging groundworks.
SPORTEX
During the construction of a new 3G pitch for Gretna FC, Sportex opted to use a re-purposed a Trocellen shockpad previously taken from an existing site and stored for re-use. Working alongside Sports Labs the pad was tested to ensure that its performance had been retained and combined with a new Greenfields turf, the pitch met the FIFA Quality Pro performance requirements.
TigerTurf and Fosse Contracts Ltd
TigerTurf and Fosse Contracts collaborated on a project to deliver Walkers Re-Play the first of its kind pitch in the UK. Surfaced with a Greenfields turf and using an Ecocept shockpad made from 3 million 100% recycled crisp packets this pitch was delivered as part of the Cruyff Foundation.
Verde Recreo
Verde Recreo working alongside Musco Lighting, introduced ActiVate, a MUGA concept seeking to provide spaces for sport and physical activity to help build stronger communities and bring people together. The design can transform existing spaces into a sport and recreation area within a week providing a easy to manage and use area.
