White Horse Contractors Ltd was founded in 1957 in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire and since March 2019 has been a member of The Slatter Group.

White Horse Contractors Ltd pioneered the development of specialist sports field trenchers for use on existing turf surfaces, with full laser grade control and an additional facility for elevating excavated soil directly into transport.

Its expertise is not confined to sports facilities; in recent years the company has designed and constructed nature reserves, wildlife habitats, reservoirs, lakes and ponds throughout the United Kingdom.

Main purpose of job

Will be responsible for estimating and tendering a range of projects including the construction of natural turf sports facilities, sports turf renovations, earthworks, land drainage, equestrian, civil construction and landscaping, with a typical project value of £25,000 – £1,000,000. To understand customer requirements and respond to price enquiries with commercially viable estimates by sourcing competitive prices from suppliers for all materials, labour, plant etc required to meet the customer’s requirements, in accordance with White Horse Contractors
company policy.


Reporting to our Technical Director and Managing Director and working alongside our well established management team.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Prepare and lead the compilation of tenders/bids/ programmes, prioritising deadlines, and company objectives.
  • Request plans and specifications from clients.
  • Review plans and perform material take-offs.
  • Request pricing from suppliers and acquire quotes from vendors.
  • Develop client and consultant relations and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Provide input to the handover process from estimating to contract.
  • Ensure economical and efficient use of company resources throughout all activities.
  • Provide data as requested to review the performance of the supply chain member.
  • Business development with architects, suppliers, and clients.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties. The role will evolve as you work to assist the team meet the overall business objectives of the Company.
