Dynamik Sport - finalist for the SAPCA Award 2025 for Large Project of the Year

DYNAMIK Sport was among the finalists for the SAPCA Award 2025 for Large Project of the Year, for its work on Coronation Square – a 45-court multi-sport hall in London.

Project description:

Coronation Square is one of the largest multi-sport sports flooring and acoustic walling projects in the UK. It is an example of inclusive design, emphasising both functionality and accessibility for the entire community.

DYNAMIK was part of a project team which consisted of Taylor Wimpey and LA Architects. Together, they delivered a 45-court sports hall with accessible sports flooring and acoustic walling, ensuring individuals of all abilities can participate in physical activities.

The facility fosters social equity, encourages exercise and provides a safe space for youth to develop important life skills. The inclusion of acoustic wall panels reduces excessive noise, creating a controlled environment for athletes and spectators, particularly benefiting those with sensory sensitivities.

This design supports mental well-being by reducing stress, anxiety, and sensory overload, making the space more enjoyable and supportive for everyone. The project promotes both physical and mental growth by providing an inclusive, welcoming space for all.

DYNAMIK’s role

Coronation Square is the UK’s largest indoor sprung synthetic sports flooring and acoustic walling project, creating a large 45 court indoor sprung multi-use arena and community space.

The sheer flexibility provided by the 45 courts allows for a wide range of sports and activities to take place within a community focused, inclusive facility, including less common options like pickleball, makes this facility particularly unique. It serves as a multi-use hub for both recreational and competitive sports, offering space for athletes, teams, and events across various disciplines.

Coronation Square’s inclusive design has been meticulously constructed, ensuring that it can serve individuals of all ages and abilities. The facility is built with a purpose of creating a safe, accessible and welcoming environment for the entire community, making it a space where people of varying needs can participate in multi-use activities and social interaction.

Another defining feature of the project is DYNAMIK’s acoustic sports walling system, which addresses both the performance and sound quality of the space. The system incorporates solid and perforated panels which provide impact resistance and acoustic reverberation reduction, ensuring optimal sound quality whilst reducing disruptive noise. The DYNAMIK system creates an industry leading, tested Class A rating for acoustic performance.

This high rating is especially beneficial for enhancing player concentration and instructor communication and was critical to the overall design stance for this large inclusive community focused project.

The DYNAMIK walling system’s acoustic properties are also vital for improving the experience of neurodivergent individuals and those with hearing impairments. The reduction of disruptive noise and echoes helps create a more comfortable environment, emphasising the facility’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. By reducing the negative effects of loud or reverberating sounds, the space becomes more accommodating for individuals who may be sensitive to noise, offering them a more welcoming and supportive environment for participation.

Social value

Social value impact

Coronation Square reflects thoughtful, human-conscious design, ensuring the space is functional and supportive of the diverse social wellbeing, interaction, and mobility needs within the community. The integration of accessibility-friendly flooring and acoustic wall panels demonstrates a commitment to creating an inclusive and inviting environment for all users. Together, DYNAMIK, Taylor Wimpey, and LA Architects have achieved this.

The supply and installation of 45 DYNAMIK multi-use courts with wheelchair-friendly flooring provides acoustic properties by design, calming visual colourways, and energy-efficient underfloor heating. These features provide participants with a clean, seamless, warm tactile surface, encouraging participation in sport, promoting health, wellbeing, and inclusion. These features are valuable for individuals with disabilities, who may face barriers to engaging in physical activity. By providing inclusive facilities, Coronation Square allows access to the benefits of exercise, mobility, social interaction, and personal growth. The DYNAMIK courts also serve as a platform for young people, offering a safe space to learn new skills, foster teamwork, and develop discipline through sport and fitness activities.

The installation of DYNAMIK acoustic wall panels played a critical role in reducing excessive noise and reverberation. Large open sports halls often experience high noise levels, which can create an overwhelming atmosphere, especially for individuals with sensory sensitivities. The sound-absorbing perforated panels minimize disruptive reverberation, creating a controlled environment for multi-sport usage, coaching, and social events.

Design consideration is important for individuals with conditions like ADHD, autism, or sensory processing disorders. Reducing sensory overload caused by noise allows individuals to engage without feeling overwhelmed. The controlled sound levels contribute to a calming atmosphere, reducing stress and promoting mental well-being for the community.

Providing an accessible sports hall to the community while considering the reduction of noise can have a profound impact on mental health. Chronic exposure to loud sounds contributes to stress and anxiety. By mitigating these effects, the project offers a healthier, more conducive environment for physical and mental growth. In a quieter space, users can concentrate, enjoy their surroundings, and feel at ease. Coronation Square has uniquely combined sports flooring and sports walling systems to create a sensory and visual environment that encourages social engagement, health, sport, and mobility in this central London development.
