The one-of-a-kind, bright and energising pitch was created in 2019 for youth football club Lambeth Tigers, in order to provide young players in the area with a pitch to be proud of.
The design of the distinctive striped pitch was inspired by the club’s colours, orange and black.
Located at Myatt’s Fields Park – a 14-acre Victorian park in South London – the exclusive pitch was manufactured at SIS Pitches’ bespoke new £1.8m facility in Cumbria, which utilises the latest technology in thermal insulation, LED lighting, laser-fire detection and advanced cladding systems. The site’s new polyurethane (PU) backing plant is also one of the most advanced turf backing systems in the UK.
The pitch was installed using revolutionary hot melt technology, allowing for stronger, longer-lasting seams to enhance the pitch’s durability. The project was a resurfacing of an existing pitch, which now has all the latest pitch technologies, including an EPDM premium infill, backed with SISBond Polyurethane.
The installation was complex due to its dual-coloured pattern and shapes – but was completed within two weeks.
The pitch was created in partnership with Nike and Jadon Sancho, the England and Borussia Dortmund star.
Sancho, who was born in Camberwell and raised in Kennington, said he wanted to help provide rising young footballers in South East London with better facilities and to improve the community.
“Growing up in Kennington has made me the man I am today; I owe a lot to South London for nurturing the way I play,” Sancho said.
“I hope this pitch can provide a safe place for the kids to play, to keep them away from some of the distractions that surround them and inspire them to achieve their dreams.”
Jamie Otto, SIS Pitches’ Contracts Manager, added: “We are really proud to install a pitch that will help inspire young athletes.
“I’d like to give a special thanks to Jadon Sancho and Nike for the fantastic design and our installation team, as it was a particularly tricky installation, but their hard work has most certainly paid off.”
