Established in 1979, Smith Construction (Heckington) Ltd is a specialist design, engineering and construction company with a nationally recognised reputation within the sports surface industry.
With extensive experience across the UK, we provide complete design and construction solutions for a wide range of sports facilities, including artificial and natural grass pitches, polymeric surfaces, athletics tracks, tennis courts, padel courts and Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs).
Our track record includes the successful construction of more than 700 artificial pitches, 45 athletics tracks and numerous padel courts, tennis courts and MUGAs. We have developed our reputation through a consistent commitment to quality, technical expertise, reliable project delivery and innovative engineering solutions.
We design and construct facilities to meet the requirements of leading governing bodies and international standards, including FIFA, FIH, WR, LTA and World Athletics.

Christ’s Hospital School
Our work at Christ’s Hospital School includes:
- The UK’s first outdoor “Get Active” Adventure Trail
- Four panoramic padel courts covered by a canopy structure
- A 400-metre, six-lane all-weather running track
- New car parking facilities
- New access roads
LOCOG – Olympic Warm-Up Track
We delivered the Olympic Warm-Up Track and Athlete Drop-off Area adjacent to the main stadium.
The track incorporated a Mondo surface, consistent with the surface used at the main Olympic stadium.

Smith Maintenance
Our specialist Smith Maintenance division provides professional maintenance services for artificial and natural sports surfaces.
Our experienced groundsmen and maintenance operatives deliver both specialist and routine maintenance programmes, tailored to the individual requirements of each facility. Our services cover sports pitches, athletics tracks, tennis courts and other field facilities, helping clients maintain surface performance, appearance and longevity.
Smith Maintenance also provides professional line-marking services for sports pitches, tracks and courts.
Smith Plant Hire
Smith Plant Hire has experienced sustained growth and has developed into a significant plant hire operation serving customers throughout the UK.
Our fleet comprises more than 100 specialist items of high-quality plant and machinery, supported by the latest laser-controlled technology. The fleet is continually expanded and upgraded to meet the demanding requirements of both our own construction projects and external plant hire customers.
