A record-breaking, 30,000 sq m design and installation project at the University of Manchester has earned SIS Pitches the SAPCA Award for Excellence for 2016.
SIS Pitches held off competition from nine other finalists for the Award and secured most nominations from delegates during a vote held at the SAPCA Conference on 6 February.
SIS Pitches’ winning project, which took 42 weeks to complete, saw the Company deliver four full-sized synthetic pitches – two for hockey and one each for rugby and football – at the university’s Fallowfield campus. SIS Pitches also provided all landscaping, including fencing and floodlighting, for the four pitches.
It is the first framework project that SIS has delivered to be worth more than £2m – and the biggest single-build work of its kind in UK history.
The Fallowfield site now has more synthetic turf pitches than any other UK facility, and is used by both students and the community.
It is SIS Pitches’ second SAPCA Award for Excellence in two years, having won the inaugural 2015 Award for its SISGRASS hybrid grass surface.
Simon Mroczek, UK contracts director at SIS Pitches, said, “We’re delighted to have been recognised by the delegates at SAPCA for the second year running.
“It is a huge honour to receive the Award for Excellence for the Fallowfield project. The end result is four superb playing surfaces, which will provide students with world class facilities for years to come”.
Now in its second year, the SAPCA Award was launched to celebrate exceptional achievements by SAPCA members.
Entries are accepted for any achievements during the year that represent excellence in sports and play facilities, from new products and services to technical innovations and construction projects.
