SAPCA member, Britannia Paints, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The family-owned company is run by directors David Johnstone and Stephen Johnstone, brothers who draw upon a paint-manufacturing tradition that stretches back to 1890, when their great-grandfather James founded Johnstone’s Paints.
James’s son John took over the business in the 1920s and his four sons in turn picked up the reins in the 1960s. David and Stephen both worked at Johnstone’s Paints for more than 10 years before combining their expertise to build Britannia into one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of high-performance coating systems.
Britannia Paints was founded in January 1985 and has built a reputation as a leader in providing high-performance coating systems for the sports sector. It supplies specialist solutions to a number of sports, with products ranging from tennis and netball court paints and line marking paints to iron stain inhibiting binders.
For example, its netball court paint offers a slip resistance value (SRV) of 75+ even in damp conditions, offering safe play conditions and a longer-lasting finish for macadam and concrete netball courts.
The company has also supplied its products to a number of the LTA’s Park Tennis projects in the past two years. The £30m Park Tennis Project is a nationwide investment programme by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation, delivered by the LTA, to refurbish public tennis courts and open the sport to many more people.
It’s been an amazing journey and we are proud of our reputation within the sports and play construction sector,” says Managing Director, David Johnstone. “We are used extensively by local authorities, schools and sports clubs for projects of all sizes.
“One of the keys to our success is our in-house technical team, which is always pleased to provide expert help and advice to those looking for the ideal solution for their facilities. Whether it’s long-lasting, high-performance tennis and netball coatings, playground paint or off-road markings to create visual contrast, they are always ready to assist.”
