Sports surfaces specialist and SAPCA member, CONICA, has launched a new “CONICA Made with Nike Grind” range of products.

According to CONICA, the launch marks a significant milestone in sustainable sports surfaces.

The innovative solution incorporates Nike Grind, a material derived from recycled rubber granules from end-of-life Nike shoes. First launched in 1992, Nike Grind began as a grassroots initiative and has since evolved into a global sustainability programme.

By transforming discarded shoes into high-quality recycled materials – such as rubber, foam, fiber, and leather – Nike Grind is used in a variety of applications, including sports surfaces, furniture, and Nike’s own footwear and apparel.

Starting February 2025, CONICA will introduce two systems incorporating Nike Grind materials.

Both CONIPUR EPDM and CONIPUR 2S utilise Nike Grind rubber sourced from end-of-life shoes, reducing waste and supporting a circular economy.

CONIPUR EPDM features a single-layer system that includes at least 25% Nike Grind rubber, providing durability and performance. In CONIPUR 2S, the 25% Nike Grind rubber is integrated into the top layer, ensuring peak performance and a sustainable solution.

According to CONICA, the new products mark “a significant step forward” in the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation and showcases its commitment to performance and quality.

“Our collaboration with Nike Grind represents a new era in sports surface innovation, combining environmental responsibility with premium quality and performancet,” CONICA said in a statement.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding the use of Nike Grind materials to additional layers and systems, further advancing our efforts to innovate responsibly and protect the environmen.

“With these groundbreaking developments, CONICA continues to set the standard for high-quality, sustainable flooring solutions.”

Thorsten Pretz, Head of Product Management at CONICA, added: “Our partnership with Nike Grind sets a new benchmark in sustainable sports flooring.

“With precision-engineered products made from recycled materials, we provide installers, architects, and municipalities with solutions that are easy to handle, consistently reliable, and unique in look and feel, all while aligning with the industry’s sustainability goals. This is a meaningful step forward for both the industry and the planet.”
