When a new-build community centre in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire needed a high-quality floor for their main sports hall they would turn to a key supplier to deliver a surface that would not only provide increased levels of safety for all its users… but also deliver great performance.

The Neyland Community Hub project is on the site of Neyland Athletic Club and includes a new home for the town council and the local library. The scheme was launched in 2014 in response to the loss of county council facilities such as the town’s swimming pool, youth club and day centre. A spokesman for the CIC said the hub – now due to cost £2.76m – represented the biggest-ever investment in community facilities in Neyland. Therefore, ensuring that a superior quality flooring was specified for the new facility would be paramount.

The ideal choice of sports flooring for the Neyland Community Hub would be provided by international flooring specialist Gerflor who would supply some 725m2 of their world class Taraflex® Performance sports floor in ‘Teal’ for the main hall which sees a number of sports activities including indoor cricket.

The installation and line marking of the Taraflex® flooring would be the responsibility of Swansea-based Artisan Flooring who had used Gerflor products on numerous previous projects. Artisan Flooring Limited opened for business in 2005 as a Specialist Flooring Contractor covering South Wales. The installer has a credible experience of delivering projects in various contract sectors including Schools, Universities, Student Accommodation, Hospitals and Offices.

Nick Healings, Manager at Artisan Flooring commented, “Gerflor flooring is always easy to work with and install. We had absolutely no problems with the installation.” Nick Healings also added, “the Taraflex® flooring is performing really well and very popular with users and players”.

Taraflex® is the most widely specified indoor sports surface in the world. Chosen by top international athletes for its unique construction and technical performance, it has been fitted at every Olympic Games since 1976. Taraflex® is an approved surface by many National and International governing bodies of sport.

Taraflex® is widely recognised and used within the education, community, leisure and health and fitness sectors. Over 6 million children everyday enjoy the benefits of Taraflex® sports flooring. It is a versatile range that can be used for various multi-specialist applications and is sensibly priced for new build projects and refurbishments. It is extremely durable and cost effective to maintain. User benefits include reducing injuries from bumps and falls and offering a feeling of comfort and protection so that both children and adults can enjoy their sporting and exercising experience.

Taraflex® Performance itself is available in 17 colours and 3 wood-effect designs as standard with an addition 110 solid colour options also available. It offers a P2 category shock absorbency of 35% to 45%. and is recognised for providing durability, safety, and comfort without impairing performance. Taraflex® Performance is treated with the Triple Action Protecsol® surface treatment, therefore no polish is ever required.

Nick Healings ended by saying, “We would certainly choose Gerflor flooring products again, we are impressed with the quality and the ease of installation.”
