Modern tennis is a diverse game accommodating many different abilities and playing preferences. Some tennis players prefer the properties of a clay surface, others favour traditional grass. But, as tennis continues its immense popularity, there’s no doubt that artificial tennis courts provide the robust, consistent playing surfaces needed to stand up to the heavy usage that clubs across the UK are experiencing.

Celebrating its 77th anniversary this year, Our Lady of Muswell Hill Lawn Tennis Club recently needed to resurface two of their courts to cater for an exceptionally busy schedule of social, amateur and competition tennis. It’s a programme that includes participation in several leagues as well as a home-hosted summer tournament welcoming more than 200 players. This new resurfacing project follows a major upgrade funded by the Lawn Tennis Association in 2005, which saw four courts being upgraded with Playrite’s needle punched tennis court surface with sand infill, Matchplay 2.

The contractor of choice for this project, ETC Sports Surfaces, first identified Matchplay 2 as the right solution for Our Lady of Muswell Hill LTC when they delivered the 2005 upgrade as part of their 25 year-strong relationship with the club. Having been consistently delighted with its reliable performance and low maintenance requirements, the club has decided to choose the same surface across all its courts. It’s notable that they have turned to the same contractor to deliver every project.

What’s more, this re-surfacing project was completed in double quick time, with all practical works finished in just nine days! Richard Betts, Club Treasurer, recently confirmed the success of the project and the value of an ongoing relationship with a trusted sports pitch construction partner.

“In the 25 years that we have enjoyed a fruitful relationship with ETC, we have had all our tennis courts re-laid with Matchplay 2 carpet,” he said. “Their project manager makes regular site visits, ensuring that all work is carried out in a professional and timely manner. We have had excellent feedback from club members on the new surfaces, and we would not hesitate to recommend ETC Sports Surfaces to other tennis clubs.”
