St George’s Weybridge is a prestigious co-educational independent school in Surrey, home to nearly 1,100 pupils. The school was founded in 1869 and its famous sporting alumni include two sets of brothers – England rugby union players Anthony and Marcus Watson and the England cricket internationals Adam and Ben Hollioake.
The school approached SAPCA member McArdle Sport Tec after discovering that the company had refurbished the hockey pitch at HMS Temeraire (Home to the Royal Navy School of Physical Training) in Portsmouth. The discovery to McArdle’s work had come through a chance encounter, when a member of the school staff travelled to Brighton on a train which overlooks HMS Temeraire’s striking, water-based hockey pitch.
St George’s appointed McArdle’s to carry out remedial foundation works and resurface the existing hockey pitch and training area, which the school shares with Premier League hockey club “The Old Georgians.”
For the project, St George’s requested a bespoke maroon yarn matching the schools specific brand guidelines. Working with fellow SAPCA member, TigerTurf, the McArdle Sport Tec team created the bespoke coloured yarn to create these iconic and one of a kind run off areas with the addition of the school’s emblem.

“Our aim was to install a first-class hockey facility for use by the College and Old Georgians Hockey Club and McArdle’s have delivered.
“Throughout the design, costing and build process they have provided excellent advice and support and have always been forthcoming incommunicating procedures and timeframes.
“The pitch has already hosted several high-profile events and has been praised by those using the facility for its performance, playability,and aesthetics.”
