SAPCA member, Notts Sport, has unveiled CocoTurf Cricket, the world’s first 100% natural, plastic-free artificial cricket surface, setting a new benchmark for sustainable design.
Made entirely from coconut fibres, jute, and natural latex, CocoTurf Cricket contains no plastics or PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) yet delivers the realistic bounce, pace and durability of a professional wicket. The surface is Oeko-Tex certified, 100% recyclable, and achieves a 15,166 mm/hr water-infiltration rate with a 1,300 g/m² pile weight.
CocoTurf Cricket has been independently tested for performance, including an Angle Ball Rebound Assessment, confirming its consistency, realistic pace and rebound of the ball angle.
Already installed at Lord’s Cricket Ground, CocoTurf Cricket offers a future-proof solution for eco-conscious facilities. Each square metre uses fibres from 6.5 coconuts, equating to 585 coconuts for one match lane — transforming agricultural by-products into world-class sporting surfaces.
The ECB application is currently in process, supporting the validation of CocoTurf Cricket as a high-performance, sustainable alternative for clubs and schools.
“This isn’t just another surface — it’s a revolution in sustainable cricket design,” said Duncan Bennett, CEO of Notts Sport. “CocoTurf Cricket performs like the real thing and does right by the planet.”
With International Patent Application No. PCT/GB2024/050422 (pending), Notts Sport continues its 40-year legacy of innovation — proving that sustainability and performance can truly share the same pitch.
