As part of an ambitious regeneration project in Copenhagen’s new waterfront district, Playtop’s Danish licensee UNIQA is making a real impact.

With a growing global population and increasing pressure on businesses and local authorities to invest in sustainable spaces, making the most of available areas is more important than ever before. Set on top of an innovative multi-storey car park in Nodhavn, which includes not just 485 parking spaces, but also bicycle parking, charging ports for electric cars and a recycling facility, is a unique public space that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Dubbed by some news outlets as the ‘Swiss army knife’ of car parks, Konditaget Lüders in the Danish capital’s old industrial shipping port is a prime example of how vision and innovation can help tackle problems associated with growing population density. The car park, while giving ample room to store vehicles, really embraces its name sake; on the roof of the innovative structure is 2400m2 of prime public park space, with a state of the art playground, gardens, an outdoor gym and swings and benches.

With a winding rope play area, mini trampolines integrated into a unique domed playscape and a multipurpose games area, the rooftop has spectacular views of the revived shipping port. Thanks to UNIQA, children and adults alike can enjoy a safe play experience, with 1120m2 of Playtop safer surfacing laid across the roof top in a bright and bold mixture of different shades of red.
Of the two shades of red used, 650m2 were 100% Playtop with Nike Grind Red whilst the remaining 470m2 also included Playtop Rose EPDM. Both colours were installed to a thickness of 15mm on top of between 25-65mm of Playtop SBR base depending on the level of Critical Hall Height protection required.

Playtop with Nike Grind is a range of impact-absorbing, wet-pour surfacing colours that are exclusive to Playtop. As a global partner of Nike Grind, every square metre of this unique product range includes the rubber from 22 sports shoes and other recycled materials.

As all Playtop safer surfacing is mixed and laid on site, it is incredibly versatile and flexible. Shapes can be created and catered for and the seamless, porous surface is available in a total of 32 colour choices for limitless design options.

Despite the warm colour scheme, the innovative project is ‘green’ in every respect. 40 concrete plant shelves around the building ensure that, over time, a distinctive splash of greenery will be added, highlighting the fun fusion between the two colours, as well as the innovative regeneration of old industrial space becoming a prime example of sustainable urban design.

With Playtop surfacing now available in over 70 countries across the world, the brand is perfect for supporting such inspiring initiatives as Konditaget Lüders in the years to come.
