PLK Dury MBE… NDT, D Uni Essex, has passed away, Saturday 18 January, 2020.

It is with Great Sadness, that I am posting today that our Father, Husband; Grandfather; Great Grand Father; Mentor and Hero in both Work and Play, Mr Peter LK Dury has quietly passed away; with his devoted Wife Brenda at his bedside; on Saturday afternoon in Hospital, in Nottingham.

Peter LK Dury ‘The Sports Pitch Doctor’; worked over 50 years in the Sports and Landscape Industry; Sportsman, Inventor, Pioneer of Performance standards and Quality Management of playing facilities. A true gentleman and friend to so many.

His career and achievements are too many to list; he was recognised as a specialist in Synthetic Turf Pitch and Playground surfaces; and equally as a leading expert in Natural Turf pitch construction and developments, across the World.
Just a few points of recognition….
2002 – Hon Doctorate Degree from University of Essex
2003 – Life-time achievement award from the Institute of groundsmanship
2003 – National Playing Fields Association Presidents award
2010 – ECB award for services to cricket
2012 – MBE for services to groundsmanship
2018 – 2nd Life-time Achievement award from the Institute of Groundsmanship (We believe the one and only person in the organisations history so far, to receive this award twice!)

Peter rarely did anything for personal gain in his Life, he did it for the ‘Love of the Game’ and for the challenge, for the pride in succeeding; to win a Cricket match or develop a new Play or Pitch system. He was a problem Solver and a Leader.

An old quote that reflects my thoughts about my Father Peter…. This could so easily be his words and attitude to Life…. “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…but the world may be a better place because I was important in the life of a child”

Well Peter most certainly influenced facilities, that many thousands maybe millions, of children and adults have played on over the last 50 years.

Thank You Peter LK Dury for being you!

It is a relief that your battle with Dementia and many more ailments, has now ended
and you can at last Rest in Peace PLKD

(Friends, Colleagues and Trade members who have been a part of ‘Peter’s Story’ or have been inspired by his work; and would like to pay their respects at his funeral…… This will take place on the 10th February 2020 at Wilford Hill Crematorium, followed by a Wake at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. Please contact David Dury on 07507 564263 or email, for times and to confirm numbers attending for catering….. Thank you.)
