- Northern Ireland-based company beats 17 other finalists to award
- SAPCA Awards now in their third year
- Awards celebrate achievements in sports and play construction
Rocklyn Sports has beaten 17 other finalists to win the SAPCA Award 2017
The Northern Ireland-based company was handed the 2017 SAPCA Award for its work on an elite-performance, indoor tennis centre at Ellesmere College in Shropshire.
Working in partnership with fellow SAPCA member Veldeman Structures, Rocklyn Sports built an indoor centre with four tennis courts, which will transform the college’s tennis programme. Rocklyn Sports – the sports facility arm of Rocklyn Engineering – provided a nose-to-tail service on the project, from detailed digital concepts, technical drawings and assistance during the planning process through to the building works.
Ellesmere College headmaster Brendan Wignall said: “This is a great development which will not only allow us to develop our tennis to an even higher standard, but should help more people get involved in tennis across the community. It’s an enormous building and a fantastic facility.”
Rocklyn Sports’ work on the centre was one of 18 diverse projects, products and services chosen as finalists for the SAPCA Awards. From the final list, the winner was selected by a panel of judges, which considered each finalist on factors such as innovation, quality, efficiency and the impact the project/service will have.
The winner was announced during the SAPCA Conference and Dinner on 5 February.
Now in its third year, the SAPCA Awards celebrate exceptional achievements by SAPCA members within the sports, play and physical activity sectors. Entries are accepted for construction projects, technical innovations and new products and services.
According to Chris Trickey, SAPCA chief executive, the awards showcase the wide range of expertise within the SAPCA membership.
“The final list reflected the breadth of knowledge and level of innovation our members possess,” Trickey said. “In fact, the high quality of entries for this year’s awards meant that we ended up with a longlist of finalists, rather than a shortlist, representing a wide range of projects, ingenious products and other success stories.
“Each finalist should be proud of their achievements and the impact their work is having on the sports and play sector.”
Trickey added that the success of the SAPCA Awards – reflected in the increase in the number of entries for this year’s competition – means that the 2018 edition will be expanded to include a number of categories
“The number of entries this year shows how the SAPCA Awards have established their role as a respected mark of excellence within the sector,” he said.
“Therefore, for 2018, we are expanding the awards and creating a number of different categories, which will be announced later this year.”
