An innovative, retractable sports play lighting tower – created in partnership by SAPCA members Carbon8Lighting and JB Corrie – was a finalist in the Product of the Year category at this year’s SAPCA Awards.
The tower combines a uniquely designed light head that maximises uniform light coverage of a sports play area from the seven-meter raised column height, while keeping light spillage to a minimum. As well as minimising energy consumption, the neat light footprint will keep neighbours happy.
The column is a bespoke design that has been created by Carbon8Lighting, using an electric motor-powered cable that sits inside the column to extend and retract. This design protects the raising/lowering mechanism from the weather, reducing the need for maintenance.
JB Corrie has been manufacturing and installing a manually operated raised and lowered retractable column solution for many years, so when they saw Carbon8Lighting’s newly launched mobile lighting tower they immediately saw the potential of a collaboration and in less than one year, the first towers were installed, much to the praise of the client.
JB Corrie and Carbon8Lighting are now working together on several projects using the Retractable Sports Play Light Tower.
