The 2017 SAPCA Awards attracted a record number of entries, with a total of 18 contenders making it on to the final long list. From the list, a panel of judges chose Rocklyn Sports as the overall winner of the prize for the company’s work on an indoor tennis centre at Ellesmere College in Shropshire.

In the eighth of a series of articles, highlighting the 17 finalists, we look at how fencing specialist JB Corrie has turned the humble fence post into a work of art.

Making it Individual

SAPCA member JB Corrie has been delivering fencing solutions across a number of sectors – including sports – for more than one hundred years. Over time, the company, which specialises in tennis solutions, has received a number unconventional requests for bespoke products.

These requests, says the firm’s sales and marketing manager Peter Stone, gave the company an idea.

“Over the years we have had some rather unusual fence post requests,” Stone says. “And this made us design the Centennial fencing range.”

Launched in 2017, the Centennial range is named in honour of the company’s 100 years of trading. Created to allow completely bespoke products, the design possibilities for the Centennial posts are nearly endless. This is due to the nature of the support posts, which are all designed in-house and then cut from a single piece of tube or box section.

The manufacturing method means that JB Corrie can deliver even the most intricate designs for clients. The posts can be personalised with almost any design – from words and shapes to intricate patterns – providing a see-through support with a traditional or modern look depending on the chosen design. The Centennial system can also include integral up-lighting units that illuminate each post for visual effects.

Premium Product

“The Centennial range is now our top of the range tennis court fencing system,” Stone says.

“It’s aimed at discerning clients looking to purchase a one of kind fence, which is also a piece of art. It simply cannot be compared to anything else currently available in the market.

“We have come up with some designs of our own that may appeal to the client, which may spark their design imagination. We can also pick up an existing design feature, perhaps in their clubhouse or environment, and work it into the fence posts and gates.

“Our method of manufacturing means that we can achieve even the most intricate designs, from diamonds that match the diamond apertures in the chain-link surround fencing, to ivy seemingly growing up the posts.

“To add to the individuality of the Centennial system we can include integral up-lighting units within the post structure, which illuminate the posts from within, generating a ‘wow’ effect.”
