A 100% recycled indoor, polyurethane sports floor by Herculan was the winner of the Sustainability Award at this year’s SAPCA Awards.
A first-of-its-kind product, Herculan Full Circle uses old polyurethane (PU) sports floors during the manufacturing process. The old PU floor is removed from the sub-base, ground down to a crumb consistency and reinstated as the cushion layer. The new base layer is then sealed, recoated, line marked and ready to be used again.
The process uses 100% of the old flooring and can be repeated again and again, making it a circular solution.
Based on the size of an average sports hall, this process avoids approximately 6 – 7 tons of waste going to landfill, because the granulation process is carried out on-site and combined with the in-situ installation means a massive reduction in the shipping of the base layer materials.
