Following in-depth technical discussions and a competitive tendering process, Smith Construction were awarded the contract to reconstruct the hockey pitch and netball/tennis show court as well as constructing a new athletic jumps area at Millfield Prep.
The ground stabilisation works are well underway on the all-weather pitch and court base. To strengthen the ground, a design blend of lime and cement is amalgamated with the formation, providing a superior base for the synthetic surface. The new pitch is designed to meet International Hockey Federation requirements and installed to National Standard performance.
The project includes new sustainable drainage systems, perimeter fencing, a sand-dressed FIH certified TigerTurf Evo Pro hockey surface and an all-weather Porous Acrylic colour-coated ITF tennis surface.
Smith Construction’s team are progressing well to a fast programme in order for the finished facilities to be ready for use at the start of the autumn term.
Craig Richardson, Grounds and Gardens Manager at Millfield and Millfield Prep, said
“At Millfield Prep we are very proud of the high-quality facilities we offer our pupils. Smith Construction’s knowledge and experience was clear from the start of the tender process and we value the commitment the team has shown onsite throughout the project as we build up to the beginning of the next school year.”
Ken Smith, Managing Director of Smith Construction said “We are delighted to be working with the Millfield team; the school is an amazing place and the project to completely rebuild the sports surfaces and spectator areas is very satisfying. We are looking forward to handing over a fantastic facility in a few weeks.”
