SAPCA member, Synthetic Turf Management (STM), has completed its latest project – a comprehensive transformation of a sand-filled hockey pitch into a 3G football and multi-sports facility at Millom Leisure Centre in Cumbria.

The resurfacing project took three weeks to complete and included the removal of existing sand-filled hockey artificial turf and a 15mm, insitu performance pad. The old surface was replaced by a Premium Tiger Turf Championship 50 playing surface, manufactured to FIFA Quality accreditation.

There are now also enhanced safety features with new perimeter kickboards. Other improvements included part replacement of a 3m high twin bar fencing and enhanced accessibility through strategic multi-point gate system.

The pitch is part of a new leisure complex which is one of four projects that make up the Millom Town Deal. The town deal secured £20.6m from the UK Government’s Towns Fund, alongside a further £8.7m in match funding.

“This cutting-edge facility represents our commitment to delivering exceptional sports surfaces that serve both educational and community needs,” a spokesperson for STM said.

“Working in close partnership with the client and our project partners, we’ve ensured every aspect meets the highest standards of quality and functionality.

“From concept to completion, we’re proud to add another landmark sports facility to our portfolio, creating lasting value for the Millom community.”
