The latest issue of SportsNation, SAPCA’s official magazine, has now been published and is available to read online.

Issue 1/2026 features an in-depth interview with Will Watt, founder and director at State of Life, a key figure in linking sport and physical activity with measurable wellbeing and economic value. Watt has advised organisations, such as Sport England, on using data – including the WELLBY measure – to help evidence the significant societal benefits of being active. He tells SportsNation why sport must change the way it proves its worth, if it wants to achieve its ambition of becoming a key player in the government’s plans to establish a health care system based on prevention.

There is also a detailed look at the SAPCA Awards 2026 finalists, a preview of the SAPCA Annual Conference and a report from the recent SAPCA Technical Conference.

Elsewhere, it is basketball’s turn to be featured in the regular “sport in focus” feature, which looks at the sport’s strategies to grow participation and improve facilities. The article outlines a sport that is thriving at grassroots, but has experienced some well-documented failures at the top – not least the liquidation of the British Basketball Federation in November 2025.

The issue also includes the first-ever edition of SwimNation, a new publication charting the UK’s aquatics sector.
