In the latest issue, we relive the highlights from this year’s SAPCA Conference, which attracted 200 delegates to the Mattioli Woods Welford Road stadium at the end of February. The event included a keynote from England rugby legend, Maggie Alphonsi and a passionate call from Eugene Minogue,
Executive Director of Play England, for the UK to adopt a “play for all” approach – and for spaces to be designed in a more play-friendly way.

There is also an eight-page special on the SAPCA Awards 2024 – including a closer look at all the six winners.

The main interview is with Dave Candler, CEO of the Swimming Teachers’ Association. Candler outlines the challenges faced by the aquatics sector and the way the industry is tackling them. He also explains why the groundbreaking STAnd Up for Swimming campaign has had a huge positive effect in alleviating the chronic shortage of swimming teachers.

We also take a close look at Badminton England’s new strategy, which sets out an ambitious goal of making badminton the “most inclusive sport in the UK”.

There is also an article on LED sports lighting and a piece exploring how hybrid turf pitches are increasingly being used at grassroots and community facilities.
